About Eronin

I believe my obsession with erotica, and typically Japanese erotica, stems from early childhood recollections of old photographs of my father when he was a soldier in post WWII Tokyo.  I vividly remember images of him with bar girls, but the sexual implications and repressed sexual tensions did not evolve into any tangible erotic artistic imagery until more recently.

Exposure to the art of the Japanese Ukiyo period and the resurgence and proliferation of erotica in their modern culture embodied in manga, hentai, and the JAV (porn) industry helped culminate my artistic direction and focus.

I look for intrinsic aesthetic value in what many consider a low-brow form of adult entertainment, and raise it to the level of High Art with a Pop Art reinterpretation commonly used by Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann to name a few.

My watercolors try to convey the freedom of sexual expression and the 'look of ecstasy' captured in their faces at that precise moment.  More profound perhaps is their submissive acceptance to sexual misogyny, as exemplified in my 'Facial' and 'Geisha with Gagball' series.  I believe the use of watercolor best conveys the emotional and sense of immediacy.

Like the early vagabond Ronin, I take the lonely path, albeit an erotic one.
